The Barnvelder :
Please note that the Barnvelder is NOT an autosexing breed and is included here only for information.
Is the ‘mother’ bird to the Barnebar Barnevelder’s come from the Netherlands and it’s origins can be traced back to Asiatic breeds. It is a single comb bird with red ear lobes, cockerels should have yellow legs and the hens should have yellow/reddish tinges on the front of their legs.
These birds are known to be good egg layers of lovely dark eggs and are easy to keep without a propensity to fly. The only disadvantage is that they are known to be susceptible to Marek’s disease although whether this has been passed on to Barnebars or not I don’t know
The Barnvelder is used to create the following autosexing breeds : Barnebar
