The Campine :
Please note that the Campine is NOT an autosexing breed and is included here only for information.

The Campine (pronounced camp-een) comes from Belgium and is the ‘mother’ of the autosexing Cambar and they are very similar in appearance and nature. The cockerels are hen feathered in the UK and Europe but not in the USA. They come in Gold and Silver and are classed as a light breed and are pretty rare although interest in them does seem to be growing. Their colouring is stunning in either the gold or the silver and really sets the barring of the breed off, they should have white ear lobes and fairly large combs and wattles

They lay a white/cream coloured egg and their laying ability should be very good although they do lose out a little on the egg size over some larger breeds. They are generally a bit shy and nervous but are pretty easy to tame. They work well in a free range environment but will cope equally as well in a more enclosed situation.

The Campine is used to create the following autosexing breeds :
Cambar
