The Cochin :
Please note that the Cochin is NOT an autosexing breed and is included here only for information.
The Cochin was the ‘mother’ bird used to make the Cobar and originates from China. These birds are known for their size with cockerels weighing around 12lbs and come heavily feathered. Ear lobes should be red and they should have yellow legs although these are hard to see with all the feathering. These birds are quiet and friendly and need little room with no worry about high fences as they don’t bother trying to fly. They make good broodies and lay a light brown egg, the only drawback of this breed is the feathered legs that can get quite mucky if they are on dirty ground
The cochin is used to create the following autosexing breeds : Cobar
